Shayla Section: A question I received this week was in regards to the seriousness of our minhag of keeping the restrictions of listening to music during sefira - could one go to a very important event of live music that came out soon after Pesach? My answer is that we do take the custom of sefira seriously and one should be strict to keep it - however, in a case of need, Rav Moshe Feinstein ruled that one may 'switch' their custom from 'First Sefira' (from Pesach until Lag B'Omer) to 'Second Sefira' (from Rosh Chodesh Iyar until Shavuot) for a year, because according to Tosephot's opinion, the students of Rabbi Akiva died for 33 days during this period of time - but not up and until Lag B'Omer.
