This Week
Wed., May 8th at 8:10pm (following Mincha/Maariv) at ASKT: Yom HaZikaron program at ASKT. We will also once again be in involved in Yizkereim: Honor Israel’s Fallen, a global project designed to honor the memory of the 23,632 fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives defending and protecting the land of Israel. Olami, in partnership with The Afikim Foundation and Israel’s Diaspora Ministry has built a website where visitors ‘adopt’ a fallen hero and perform a positive action in his/her memory (chesed, Torah study, tzedaka, or prayer). A virtual candle lights up on that hero's page with each action. Our shul has reserved a block of 38 heroes. Please help keep their memories alive. The custom link to our block can be accessed by clicking here. Login, read the short bio of a fallen hero and pledge a meaningful action to honor his/her memory. To watch a short and moving video, click here.
Thurs., May 9 at 6:00pm: Yom Ha’Atzmaut Seudah Delicious Israeli cuisine from Taboun, a live concert from a great band, $18.00 per person.

rabbi of Congregation Shearith Israel in Manhattan and director of the Straus Center for Torah and Western Thought at Yeshiva University. 

His topic will be "The Most Famous Photo in Jewish History: The Enduring Allure of the Three Soldiers at the Wall"

Sat, Nov. 16: The Wisconsin Unity Shabbat will revolve around the theme "ViAhavta LiReiacha Kamocha - Love your fellow as yourself" On Motzai Shabbat, the Jewish community will come together for Havdalah and a program followed by a comedy show "Strictly UnOrthodox" with Ashley Blaker.
 
Community Announcements
Milwaukee Chevra Kadisha: is in need of more men and women to help with the mitzvah of Taharas. There is a stipend per tahara, or you can choose to donate the money to tzedeka. Sun., May 5 at 3:00pm at Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC (6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd.): Yom HaShoah - Holocaust Remembrance Day. Keynote Speaker: Eric Blaustein was 12 years old when he saw his father taken away on Kristallnacht. He lived for three years with false papers and later survived Buchenwald by swapping identities with an Italian inmate who had died. He moved to Israel in 1948, fought in the War of Independence, and moved to the United States in 1954. Holocaust Education Honoree: Beth Feest. Winners of the Holocaust Writing & Art Contest sponsored by the Habush Family Foundation

Tues., May 7 at 6:00pm at Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC (6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd.): Yom HaZikaron - Israel’s Day of Remembrance Guest speaker: Gili Meisler On the 71st Yom HaZikaron we commemorate the memory of those lost to us. The final resting place is still unknown for 173 IDF soldiers. Gili Meisler’s brother, Giora, was one of those soldiers. Gili made the film Fireflies about his family’s experience and as keynote speaker, he will share his story with us. NOTE: Ceremony attendees are asked to wear white shirts.

Wed., May 29th from 7:30- 9:00 A.M. at The Wisconsin Club, 6200 Good Hope Road. Jewish National Fund  Breakfast for Israel  The speaker is Mosab Hassan Yousef, an internationally renowned writer and Palestinian who worked undercover for Israel’s internal security Service, Shin Bet. To attend, one can RSVP by May 16th by either going to: JNF.org/wibfi or calling the JNF office at 414-963-8733. There is no cost to attend.

Tree of Life: To honor the memory of Lorraine Cohen, her loving family has donated a beautiful Tree of Life plaque to ASKT. Leaves can be purchased and inscribed to honor a person, recognize a special occasion or to remember a special loved one. Top leaves in brass: donation of $360 Bottom leaves in bronze: $180.
