Friday, July 17
One can start Shabbos as early as Plag HaMincha which is at 6:53pm If you want to start Shabbat that early the best is to daven Mincha before 6:53pm and start Shabbat after that. If you want to do a late Shabbat you can light at regular time and daven mincha before sunset at 8:27pm
Mincha (7:00pm) - Ashrei (232) Amidah (234) and Aleinu (252)
Kabbalat Shabbat (308) at Home. Make sure to dress up nice and to sing!! Pick a nice tune or two for Lechah Dodi (316).
We skip Bameh Madlikin (322) and go straight to Maariv (330). (No Barchu is said)
We say the paragraph of Vayechulu (346) and then skip the next three paragraphs and say Aleinu (350) and Vayigdal (12)
Friday Night Meal – Make sure to sing and give divrei Torah! Shalom Aleichem (354), Aishet Chayil (358), and Kiddush (360) followed by HaMotzi.
Shabbat, July 18
We will have an 8:30 am full davening on the patio.
For Those Davening at Home:
Shacharit: daven at 8:30am (Shema should be recited before 9:13am)
Following Shacharit – the parsha of Matos-Masei can be read from a Chumash.
Following that, one could read the Haftorah for Parshat Masei (Jeremiah 2-4-28 and 3:4) Back to the Siddur – You could now say the mi-Shebeirach for the ill (442) and the mi-Shebeirach for Tzahal (444). Remember to say the first Yekum Purkan (448) only. Remember to say the prayers for the government and the State of Israel (450).
We say Birkat HaChodesh (452) The Molad for Menachem Av will be on Monday, 10 minutes and 15 chalokim after 1 pm. Rosh Chodesh Av will be on Wednesday. We skip Av HaRachamim and say Ashrei (456) which is followed by the Mussaf Amidah (462).
I recommend singing Ein Keilokeinu (476), Aleinu (480), (Anim Zemirot is not recited without a minyan) Shir Shel Yom (488), and Adon Olam (12).
Kiddush (492) and Festive Shabbat meal (remember to sing and give divrei torah).
There is a widespread custom to study Pirkei Avot Shabbat afternoons until Rosh HaShana – this week is Chapter 1.
Mincha: (in-person7:00pm)(502) Ashrei and Uva Litzion. Followed by Amidah for Mincha Shabbat (514).
Maariv (256). Remember to add the special insertion in the blessing of binah as part of the Amidah (268). We say Vihi Noam (p. 594) followed by Aleinu (280)
Havdallah(618): at 9:09pm, Say Baruch HaMavdil bein Kodesh Lichol and then you can drive to shul for our 9:20pm minyan.

ReOpening Minyan at ASKT - Message from Rabbi Kalmar
We are continuing weekday minyanim outside starting Sunday morning July 19 and an outdoor minyan for Shabbat, July 25. The procedures we are putting in place for all the minyanim are on theshul website.I know that there are very different opinions about what is safe and what is required for this to happen. I am asking everyone to be tolerant and understanding of other people's points of view as we navigate this re-opening.

Shabbat Afternoon Walking Visits- We will be organizing afternoon walking visits in Glendale to our members. Walkers will be coming by at around between 1-5pm and knocking on a door or window and then backing up to a nice safe socially distant place so you can either wave from the window or come to your door and say hello.

Customarily during the three weeks, we refrain from haircuts and shaving, listening to music and dancing, and buying new fruits or clothing that will require a Shecheyanu blessing.
However, please see the ruling of Rav Herschel Schachter, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva University about music during the three weeks:
"The period of mourning beginning on Shiva Asar B’Tamuz (The Three Weeks), is patterned off of the classical laws of Avelius when mourning a deceased parent. When mourning the loss of a parent, we have a custom to abstain from listening to joyful music. However, one would be allowed to listen to music if they felt it was needed to help assuage their personal feelings of anxiety or depression. At the current time due to the ongoing pandemic, the entire world is in a state of uncertainty and concern. One who feels compelled to listen to music in order to help alleviate their tension or pressure would be allowed to do so. This would especially apply to Erev Shabbos, when listening to music would create a positive frame of mind in anticipation of Shabbos."
